The worst part about the blackout is not just the power outage. Here in Detroit, not only did we lose our power but we lost our water too. Our pumping stations were not being powered until generators were brought in. The line at this gas station went for about 3 miles past the driveway. I would say it took me about 3 hours just to get to the pump. Right after I was done pumping, there was a disappointing announcement made. "No More Gas" the attendant reported. People who waited in line for hours were sadly disappointed that they couldn't get any gasoline. When I turned the faucet on, there was nothing. Not even a drop or trickle. It was like the water was disconnected totally.

We were here for the first day of the outage and left for orlando the next day. Their were delays at the airport(metro) but after that, in orlando, we had a grande time. We arrived back in detroit on the 19th and everthing was back tho normal. Like nothing happened.

I know I'm two years late, but I wanna share my story
It was about 4:15 in the afternoon and I was waiting for my mom to return home from work, so she could take me to the mall, when all of a sudden, the power goes out. At first I thought it would come back on again, cuz my power would go off for a split second. Then I thought, did my mom pay the electric bill? And I looked out the window. At the house across street, I can see their TV playing and I didn't, then I saw someones window fan slowing down and I'm thinking 'neighborhood blackout' My mom arrives home second later and drops the bomb. The lights were out everywhere! I get a bit freaked. My mom though Jesus was coming back. I'm thinking the Apocalypse. Its super eerie outside. No stoplights, no store lights. (who was then living with us) and he tells us that the lights were out there too! On our way to the store, we find out that everybody's power in the state if Ohio was out and it was out in other places. Later, we would find out it was in London, Ontario, Canada (and my mom though London, England). As nighttime approached, it gets SUPER dark out and about 10 PM, it was pitch black, the only sign of light was the moon. It wasn't all bad. It wasn't too hot, plus, I got to see a zillion stars. The next morning, some people had power, others didn't, including my house. Me and my mom went to the store to get something to eat. The newspapers were super thin, not bulky and the only thing fresh we could eat was peanut butter sandwiches. My mom had to go into work help clean out the spoiled foods from the coolers so I stuck around and finally, about noontime, our lights returned. I kinda enjoyed the blackout. I survived the Great Blackout of 2003!
